Crossfit log for Friday, February 27th

The 2015 Crossfit Open has begun.

15.1 was announced last night and gearing up for tomorrows attempt we did an easier version today, to get the muscle patterns and to get a feel for how it's going to go tomorrow.

We did 4 round of
- 9 toes to bar
- 6 dead lifts
- 3 snatches
- rest 2 minutes

using the weight you plan to use tomorrow, since I'm doing Rx for every workout I can, I used 115#, between the 3rd and 4th round there was no rest, to get the full experience of going back to the t2b right after the snatches. (sucked).

The snatches were harder than I expected.  115# is just too heavy to do them easily.

Thankfully, on coach Alex's recommendation I checked to see if split snatch is acceptable and it is.  So that's good news for tomorrow.

It took me 10:12 to do the 4 rounds, so I think my game plan will be go for 5 rounds, on 0:30 - 0:45 rest between rounds.  If the snatches go better with the split, the toes to bar will quickly become the limiter.

I'll have to dig deep.

We finished off the day with 1000m row at conversational pace, rest 4 minutes and repeat.

So 2000m of rowing over the span of 12 minutes to flush things out.

Feeling good. Tomorrow should be interesting.

Taper log for Friday, June 6th

Day two of tapering for Brockfit (renamed to Crossfit Brockville Team Challenge).

Slept in again, as Kiza went to the morning class in my stead.

Went to the Y at lunch and rolled out my glutes, stretched my hams and calves, rolled my lats and traps, stretched my shoulders.

Then I worked on some overhead squat.  I figured since I can really go heavy it would give me some useful work that wouldn't really hurt me in the morning.

Feeling pretty good right now.  I hope tomorrow doesn't suck.

Strength log for Wednesday, June 4th

So I'm on a team for the Brockfit Crossfit competition this weekend.

I've never competed in Crossfit before so I'm naturally a bit of a basket case.

I'm trying to prepare much like I would for a race, so some kind of taper, a nutrition plan, a hydration plan.

It's a very different beast, but I can imagine what I'll need.

So figuring out a workout for today was challenging.

I tried some bench press, but after all the push ups from this morning, I was struggling at 185#, so I bailed on that.

I hit a couple of split snatch at 75#, just for form.  That was pretty good.

Then I was lost, so I rolled around a bit and stretched and called it a day.

I think I'll just do mobility and maybe hop on the rower tomorrow and take Friday off..

We'll see.

Running log for Thursday, March 22nd

Heel doesn't feel tight and doesn't feel painful, not even to the touch. Right now it feels itchy, like it's knitting itself back together.

I'm really torn. I had a 6km run on the books yesterday, but didn't do it for fear of making my heel worse, but today, since there's no pain, I want to try.

I have so much pent up energy it's driving me crazy, no Crossfit since Friday, no running since Saturday.

Can I really go into a 30km race without a single run in the week leading up!?!?!?!?

ATB training log for Sunday, March 18th

Bad dress rehearsal great opening night right?

My last long run before race day was a bit of a disaster. Still some residual soreness from Friday's WOD and my heel isn't at 100% for sure. Ice, foam roller and rest for a today and tomorrow, maybe even Tuesday. A couple of easier runs, maybe something short near race pace, just to get a feel for that pace. And we'll see.

Right now, race day could go either way.

ATB training log for Thursday, March 15th

As expected it was a bit sore this morning getting out of bed. I've been wearing my croc slippers to give a bit of a heel instead of walking around the house barefoot (or in socks) as usual.

Right now, stairs are fine, but if I press on it, it's still a bit tender.

I got on the rower or 2000m yesterday at noon and that went fine. I'd like to go for a short easy run, but I think I'll wait until tomorrow.

Crossfit log for Wednesday, June 29th

Because I'm an idiot, I missed my Crossfit this AM.

Grrrr.

I'll still do the tabata at lunch.

Maybe giving the old body a rest won't be a bad thing.
