Health log for Friday, May 16th.

Strep again.  Should have known during yesterday's workout, feeling so sluggish.  I always thing I'm overtraining or not gettng enough sleep when I have a workout like that, then the next day the sore throat starts.

Quick trip to the clinic, for a rapid strep test and bingo.  Erythromicin this time. Don't think I've ever had that one.

Advil taken.  At least I've developed a skill for detecting it early.

Strength log for Monday, April 7th

Quick trip to the Y yesterday at lunch, to do some strict shoulder press

Planned 5 sets of 5 at 115#.  Mustn't have reviewed my number properly.  Did three sets, of 5, 4 and 3, because that's all I could muster.

Granted I was coming down with strep.  Penicillin prescribed.  Yay!

But I need to remember that there are weights between 95# and 115# I should be working with.  105# and 110# are where I should be doing my 5x5, 3x5 and 5x3 and using 115# and 120-5# for 3x3 and heavy singles.

Lesson learned.

Today, I'm feeling like crap, but I caught the symptoms early, so I should be good to go tomorrow.

Health and mobility log for Sunday, February 9th

Well it had been almost a year since I may had strep throat, hopefully this is a one off and it won't bug me again for many moons.
Although we are starting with plain old Amoxil, I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. We'll see how it goes.

I still managed to get 25 minutes in a relaxed squat (8.5 minutes, 6.5 minutes and 10 minutes) 5 to go for the day. All barefoot, but my heels are on the carpet and tired on the floor. Gives me about half an inch grace.

Hoping I'll feel better by tomorrow. morning

Crossfit log for Thursday, March 14th

Dammit! Strep again. New antibiotic started - Cefprozil.

Advil and Listerine have kept the worst at bay. So I wasn't feeling too bad this morning and it was a rare chance for IG and I to go to Crossfit together, and it was Open workout # 2 on top of that. So I couldn't not go.

13.2 was rough. One of those "looks easy on the board until you start that first round and realized it's gonna suck" type workouts.

10 min amrap:
5 shoulder to overhead 115#
10 dead lifts 115#
15 box jumps 24" box

115# is heavy, not dead lift heavy, but push press heavy for sure. By the third time through I was sucking wind with no break in side. And that particular round I nailed myself on the chin with the bar on the way over head, and really rang my bell. Took a bit of time to recover. Got to 6 box jumps of round 5. Not very good but, it's what I had in me.

It's not usually my style, but I'm going to try again on Saturday. The antibiotics will have had more time to do their thing and I'll hopefully be feeling a bit stronger. I'd like to at leas make 5 rounds!

Well this is getting a bit ridiculous

Strep throat. Again.
This new antibiotic (amoxil-clavulin) is supposed to eradicate everything. It better work.

I have a referral to a specialist to see about a possible tonsillectomy. Hopefully it won't come to that.

In the mean time I'm taking a pro-biotic supplement to help rebuild my GI flora after the eradicator kills everything in it's path.

Wish me luck folks. As if getting old wasn't bad enough!

I thought the last round with Biaxin would kill it good, but it hasn't even been a month and it's back. The antibiotic I'm on is very strong, and doing a number on my digestive system.

Despite the queasies, I feel up to going to Crossfit tomorrow. I'll take it easy. Women's blue no more, this week and next. Two days on, two days off (weekend), two days on, one day off (Wednesday), two days on, then Monday see if I feel up to men's blue and the regular 5 day/week schedule.

Unless I feel like crap, in which case I'll revise the plan.

Yet another coures of antibiotics

Strep throat again. Glad I caught it before the trip.

Biaxin this time.  Stronger than just plain amoxil. Should be fine for the races.

Crossfit log for Monday, November 12th

Ugh. No runs this weekend.

Day four of strep and my throat isn't healed, and I'm still tired and achy. Amoxil doesn't even seem to be putting a dent in it.

I went to the gym anyway, planning to go easy.

Did somewhat okay at the back squats.

The WOD was interesting.
5 rounds of:
5-5-5-5-5 dead lifts (blue was 185#-225#) I opted for 185#
30-25-20-15-10 double unders

At 185, is wasn't too hard and I somehow managed to string together a lot of 10 or more double unders. In my lifting shoes no less!

Finished first! 5:02 (granted other went heavier, but still).

It didn't leave me half dead, which was nice, and it felt good to workout again. Hopefully my lunch time run tomorrow will be good.

Yet another case of strep throat.

Self exam of my throat revealed white spots on my tonsils, a sure sign of infection. Decided to brave the clinic in the afternoon. Took about two hours, but I got confirmation of strep and a script for good old fashioned penicillin.

Ugh. Oh well, let the healing begin.
